I design and build websites on Vancouver Island. I trained for this, and I still do it because I like it.

How I got here

Victoria, BC

I have a diploma in Interactive Media Development. The design and the code both come from there, which is why I can take on a whole job instead of half of one.

These days I am studying kinesiology, on a pre-med path. The web work did not stop when the degree changed. It is the thing I keep coming back to, and the training behind it did not expire.

Most of what I build is for people who answer their own phone. A food truck, a nonprofit, a solar installer, around Victoria and Sooke. Usually the business itself is doing fine and the website is the part that is not helping, which is a better problem to be handed than the other way round.

When I am not doing this I design and print physical objects, which is a hobby and not a service.

what you are actually getting

You are talking to the person building it: I am one person, not an agency. Nobody hands your job down to someone more junior once the contract is signed, because there is nobody to hand it to. The trade is that I take a few jobs at a time rather than many, so sometimes the honest answer about timing is not the one you want.
The design and the code are in the same hands: I can build the site and the printed menu that goes with it without subcontracting half the job. That mostly matters for the boring reason: there is no handoff for things to get lost in, and the thing on the wall ends up looking related to the thing on the screen.
I will tell you if you do not need me: Tell me the workflow and I will tell you whether software is even the right answer. Sometimes it is a spreadsheet you already have, or one page instead of eight. I would rather say that early than build you something you have to maintain forever.
